Lâm Đồng province is a mountainous Southern Highland province and is located in the subtropical monsoon area with average annual temperature ranging from 18-25o Celcius, at the altitude of 800 - 1500m above sea level. Total land area: 9,773.54 sqkm, population to end of 2017 is about 1,300,000 people with 43 ethnic minorities. Lâm Đồng has 12 administrative units including 2 cities - Đà Lạt and Bảo Lộc, and 10 districts. Lâm Đồng borders Bình thuận province to the south – south east, Khánh Hòa and Ninh Thuận provinces to the east, Đắk Lăk - Đắk Nông provinces to the north, Đồng Nai - Bình Phước provinces to the west – south west. In terms of communication & land transportation, Lâm Đồng has national roads 20, 27, 28, 55; provincial roads 721, 722,723,724,725 connecting south central, southeast and central highland provinces.

The distance from Đà Lạt to Nha Trang is 140km, to Buôn Ma Thuột 210km, to Gia Nghĩa town 180 km, to Biên Hòa city 220km, 320km to Hồ Chí Minh city, 200km to Phan Thiết, 110km to Phan Rang Tháp Chàm.

- Transportation of merchandise via road from Đà Lạt to Cam Ranh Port - Khánh Hòa about 100km; to Tân Cảng - Cái Mép about 30km.

Air transport: Lâm Đồng has Liên Khương international airport, 30km from Đà Lạt to the south.

At the end of 2017, there are daily domestic flights to Hà Nội, Vinh, Đà Nẵng, and Hồ Chí Minh city operated by Vietnam Airlines and VietjetAir. Especially, Vietjet Air has flights to Vũ Hán – China and Bangkok – Thailan.

Tourism - services:

Lâm Đồng includes Đà Lạt, a national and regional resort and tourism center, with favorable climatic conditions and a system of ancient mansions and buildings, particularly, the Teachers’ TrainingCollege was voted by the Architecture Magazine as top 1000 most unique architectural sites of the world in the 20th century. Lâm Đồng has 3 golf courses, 7 waterfalls being national scenic spots, 7 large lakes with beautiful landscape.

As at the end of 2017 infrastructure facilities for tourism include 1.244 accommodation facilities with more than 18,689 rooms, of which are 366 one – five star hotels with 9,566 rooms including 26 three-five star hotels with 2,589 rooms.

There are 35 tourist resorts, 60 free tourist attractions, 59 travel agencies, of which are 21 international travel agencies. Tuyền Lâm Lake Themed Resort covers over 3,000 ha.

In 2017 Lâm Đồng receives 5.9 million tourists; in which international tourists account for over 400,000.

With infrastructural facilities continuing to grow, natural landscape, unique architectural sites being preserved, Lâm Đồng tourism – services sector has sufficient conditions to develop various forms of activities such as: ecotourism, rest & recreation, sightseeing, amusement & entertainment, culture & sports, scientific research, educational tour, agro tourism, flower tourism, etc.


Lâm Đồng has the largest vegetables, flowers and tea growing areas in the country. Total growing area of Lam Dong is 368.000 hectares.

As at end of 2017:

Vegetable-growing areas occupy over 60,230 ha, output almost 2.26 million tons/year.

The flower-growing area of 8.652 hectares has output of 3 million cut flowers.

The tea-growing area of 20.100 ha of which are over 1,000 ha of high quality tea such as Oolong, Kim xuyên, Tứ quý producing fresh tea buds, accounting for 240.363 tons/year.

The coffee-growing area of 158.625 ha, has output of 454.019 tons.

Consumption markets for Đà Lạt flowers & vegetables include Japan, Singapore, Taiwan, Australia, Belgium, the Netherlands, EU, the United States, China. Additionally, Lâm Đồng has a number of other crops such as cashew, mulberry, cocoa, pepper, fruit trees contributing to increase the value of agricultural production.

Lâm Đồng also has favorable conditions to raise cold-water fish such as sturgeon, salmon with a scale of 50 ha of water surface, output over 1,000 tons/year.

Total areas applying high-technology in agricultural production reached 51.799 hectares in 2017, accounting for 20% of total areas of annual crops; concentrated mainly in hi-tech vegetables, flowers – growing areas of 22.591 ha.

With an area of over 597,690 ha of forest land, Lâm Đồng has 2 national parks, namely, Bidoup Núi bà national park occupying 700.38km2 and Cát tiên national park, 272.73sqkm. In July 2015 UNESCO recognized Lang Biang biosphere zone as the world biosphere reserve of 275,439 ha.

As at end of 2017, total volume of exploited forest products is 56.153,5 m3.


Lâm Đồng industry is developed by the mining, industrial processing of agricultural, forestry and fishery production, fertilizer, and electricity & gas production and distribution. In order to develop modern industry, Lâm đồng province calls for investment in 3 industrial parks, including: Lộc Sơn industrial park of 183 ha, Phú Hội industrial park of 109 ha, Tân Phú Agriculture Industrial Zone 316.8 ha and 7 industrial clusters with a scale of 258 ha.

Festival cultural activities:

Đà lạt is recognized as the Flower Festival city and the flower festival is organized every two years, additionally, the province has other festivals such as the tea culture festival and the ethnic cultural festival.

Education and training:
Lâm Đồng has 2 universities, 6 colleges, 5 middle schools and 36 vocational units, 3 chemical research institutes: Biological research institute, Pasteur institute and the nuclear research institute.

Investment results as at December 2017:
-Domestic investment: total projects: 820, total registered capital: 114.992 billion đồng. Area of land use is 71.851 hectars.

-Foreign investment in Lâm Đồng: total projects: 103, total registered capital USD 528 million USD. Area of land use is 2.428 hectars.

Socio-economic development in 2017: Economic growth GRDP (Gross Regional Domestic Product- per 2010 comparable rate) 8,16%, GRDP per capita 54,2 million VND (USD 2,219/headcount/year): Economic structure (at actual price): Agriculture, fisheries industry 49,6%; Industrial – construction industry 17%; services 33,4%; Total export turnover about 455 million USD.

Urban development:

Development of Đà Lạt city to 2030, vision to 2050 following Decision 704/QĐ-TTG dated 12/5/2014 by the Prime Minister approving adjustment of Đà Lạt city plan with a scale from 393.28 sqkm to 3,359.3 sqkm.

Strictly implement specific mechanism and policy based on Decision 1528/QĐ-TTg dated 03/9/20 issued by the Prime Minister to build Đà lạt city into a modern, environmentally – friendly city to meet the functional role of an urban ecological and natural landscape of national and international significance. Đà Lạt will become a national and international resort city, a scientific research, training and technological transfer center, a national and international trade center, agricultural production and biodiversity protection research center having an important role in national security and defense.
Build Đà Lạt and its vicinity following the approved master plan, and specific mechanism and policy approved by the Prime Minister, endeavoring to help Đà Lạt and its vicinity by 2020 to basically meet the criteria of a city directly under management of the central government, heading to build a smart city.

- Development of Bảo Lộc city : Build as a grade 2 industrial urban city associated with development of service sectors. Đức Trọng district becomes a grade 3 urban area, representing its role of a key economic zone of the south region.

Tourism – services:

Promoting theadvantages ofclimate, landscape andenvironmentto developtourism intoa dynamic economicsector; priority is given to the development of high quality ecotourism, conference tourism, agriculture tourism, building special tourism products and brand, developing Đà Lạt and several localities into high-class ecotourism center, regional and international conference and seminar hub; associating Lâm Đồng with the Central Highlands, southeast regions to form tourism development triangles.

Developing and promoting the brands of agricultural products; products processed from agro-forestry; strengthening trade promotion, expanding domestic and overseas markets. Continuing to attract investment in commercial centers, supermarket chains, central markets to develop program of rural market systems. Speeding up export, especially high value commodities, and commodities of provincial advantage for growth impetus.

Transport infrastructure:
- By land: Looking for fund resources to invest in transport infrastructure for tourism and socio-economic purposes, such as: upgrading national roads 27, 28, 55, Eastern trường sơn road, Lương sơn – Đại ninh road, investing in Dầu giây – Liên Khương Expressway.

- Railroad: Restoring the 84 km Đà lạt – Tháp chàm railroad line for community exchange and tourism service to south and central provinces.

- Air route: Opening international air routes Đà lạt- Singapore- Đà lạt, Đà lạt – Siem Reap – Đà lạt, and some East Asian countries such as Japan, South Korea; China; promoting to open domestic air routes to several major cities throughout the country.

Developing high-tech applied agro -forestry, bio - technology associated with preservation, post - harvest processing; promotingthe development ofeconomicco operations andlinks; Prioritizing development ofstaplecrops of high economicvalue; and competitive advantage, implementingeffectiveschemefor agricultural developmenttowardsmulti - sectorial approach. Attracting investors in flower trading center, agricultural wholesale market. Attracting high-tech agricultural projects associating with agricultural tourism. Taking full advantage of the opportunityof the Trans – Pacific Partnership agreements(TPP), the ASEAN Community to develop sustainable agriculture. Building Đà Lạt in to a national and international hi-tech agricultural research center.

Industrial development of the province is associated with the development orientation of the Highlands and surrounding areas. Prioritizing the development of agricultural processing industry: tea, coffee, mulberry, dairy processing, classification and preservation of vegetables, flowers...Calling for investmentin Tân Phú industrial park and clustersin the province. Developing handicraft associated with service – tourism development. Creating conditions for the developmentof supporting industry, industrial agriculture and rural service, focusing on attracting in frastructure development projects of industrial clusters for effective exploitation.

Socio – cultural activities:
Comprehensively developing social and cultural fields: Closely follow objectives, fundamental innovation and comprehensive education & training; speeding up application of science and technology in production and daily life; promoting the primary national role of education and training, science and technology in the development of socio-economy of the province; Building Lâm Đồng into a high quality human resources development center in the Central Highlands; a scientific research, education, training and technology, multidisciplinary, multinational technology transfer center; building up the local culture, preserving and promoting cultural identities of the peoples.
